The event was strictly ceremonial, as no fans were allowed into Stark’s Park. But, despite that, manager John McGlynn said he was happy for the players and staff.

“We’ve had the medals and the trophy for some time now,” he said, “but we couldn’t get a situation prior to now where we could get so many people together.

“From that point of view, there were a lot of people who helped us win that league who couldn’t make it on the day. They’ve moved on to other clubs and we had the chairman Bill Clark move on too, so it was a bit of a shame that not everyone could be there.

“But it was nice for the players that put in all the hard work. They could see that everything had been for something.”

The squad has now been pre-season training for three weeks and had its first game since March with a 2-1 win over Dundee United at Tannadice win in a bounce match on Tuesday, the goals coming from Regan Hendry and Manny Duku.

Similar games have been lined up against Falkirk, Queen’s Park, Stenhousemuir and Brechin City, though the team will head into them with four players missing.

“Iain Davidson, Frankie Musonda, Brad Spencer and Lewis Vaughan are all injured,” McGlynn said.

“We could have done without because we’re not carrying a big squad so it’s a little bit frustrating, but it is what it is.

“None of them are too serious, they’re just niggly injuries that will take a couple of weeks to clear up, but to lose four players is quite a lot.

“It’s frustrating but it’s kind of half expected when the guys have been out for so long.

“It’s the demands and the intensity of the training unfortunately but we have to get to it. When you play at intensity you have to train at intensity.

“These games are just about match fitness.”
