St Monans Swallows........1

Swallows met Premier lLeague leaders Valleyfield in this Taylor Sullivan cup tie.

The home team knew this would be a difficult game but circumstances conspired against them which led to a heavy defeat.

With only 11players available for selection, Swallows more than held their own in the opening exchanges and certainly did not look out of place.

However, after 10 minutes right back Callum Roberts fell awkwardly and had to be carried off reducing the home team to ten.

After a home defence reshuffle Valleyfield took command ruthlessly exposing the weaknesses and scored two well worked goals in as many minutes.

A further two were added before half time leaving Swallows in an impossible position.

After the restart worse was to follow when Scott Thomson received a second booking and the inevitable red card.

Now down to nine, Swallows battled bravely and created several good chances which they failed to take.

Soon after the away team made it five before Craig Fyall headed a cross from the left hand side.

Valleyfield, who had their central defender dismissed for a crude tackle, added a further three goals to secure an emphatic victory over the Swallows.

Never the less St Monans can take credit for battling on against all the odds.

Hopefully the manager will have a stronger squad for the meeting with Glenrothes away from home in the Scottish Cup on Saturday.
