Teenager Darren Clarkson was Saints’ hero when he followed up a number of fine saves during the 90 minutes to deny Bo’ness in a penalty shoot out.

The 18-year-old saved penalties from Ross Philip and Michael Gemmell to give his team an unlikely victory in this Fife & Lothians third round tie.

The visitors almost took the lead after only 2 minutes when a shot from Jack Simpson was pushed onto a post by Darren Clarkson and out for as corner.

It was no surprise when the visitors scored the opener just after the hour mark, when Chris Donnelly collected a Ross Philp pass and fired a low shot into the bottom corner of the net.

Saints equalised when substitute Barry Sibanda appeared to be held back in the penalty box by Ross Campbell and referee Jordan Curran had no hesitation when he pointed to the penalty spot.

Paddy Deane took thespot kick, but keeper Scott Christie made an excellent block.

Deane was first toreact when he followed up to score his eighth goal of the season.

In the penalty shoot out Paddy Deane, Craig Wedderburn , Kevin McMullan and Barry Sibanda all scored for Saints, with Stewart Devine, Scott Christie and Will Snowdon on target for visitors Bo’ness.

The quarter final will see Saints will travel to play the winner of the Penicuik
