McManus, who has also played for Raith Rovers and East Fife, said he was “delighted” to sign for the Glens.

“It’s right on my doorstep,” he said. “I had a few options which would have involved a bit of travelling to other clubs, but I just felt it was the right move to go to Glenrothes.

“The club obviously has ambition to move even higher. That was one of the main attractions after speaking to John Martin and Kevin Smith.”

Martin said he and co-manager Smith think McManus’ experience will be a vital addition to the squad.

“Myself and Kev have been chasing Paul for a while and we are delighted to finally get it over the line,” he said.

“Paul will bring vast experience to the squad and will help us on our journey.

“I keep myself relatively fit anyway, so I’ve kept myself ticking over with 5K runs most days,” he said.

“I’ve not done much hard running but I had a taste of it last week in my first training session with the club.

“Even at my tender age, I’m still enjoying my football and I’m going to keep on playing.

“It’s a two-year deal I’ve signed and I’m sure I’ll play to the end of it.”
