St Andrews United rounded off a tough pre-season programme by recording a moral boosting victory over Kinross Colts Amateurs at the Clayton Caravan Park Recreation Ground, writes Donald Gellatly.

Kinross actually started the contest as the stronger side but the home players gradually found their feet before taking the lead in the tenth minute when Kyle Wilson converted a great pass from Owen Andrew.

The scorer then turned provider moments later when Andrew latched onto a terrific through ball from Wilson but the visiting management team of Allan Moody and former United goalkeeper Stevie Clark will be disappointed that their defenders appealed for offside rather than playing to the whistle.

St Andrews United subsequently took control of proceedings towards the end of the first half yet good goalkeeping from Mark Robertson combined with poor finishing meant that there was no further scoring by the interval.

The visitors barely tested Connor Shaw in the home goal and Saints began to dominate the midfield battle.

The quality of play deteriorated during the final quarter of the match because both sets of players were soaked to the skin as a result heavy rain falling throughout the afternoon.

The game ended on a positive note for United when substitute Graeme Hart pounced on a defensive mistake in the 91st minute to make the score 3-0.

Subs: S.Cunningham, King, Grady and Hart.
