Wallace wonders would could have been at Bayview

For new East Fife signing Tony Wallace he has been left wondering what could have been had he chosen to join the club this time last year.

Wallace has finally signed on the dotted line at Bayview after having originally joined up with the club last pre-season.

The midfielder actually played one game in the black and gold with Gary Naysmith keen to add him to the ranks.

But the former Morton man had already agreed a deal with Highland League side Nairn County and felt it was only right he honoured the arrangement.

Of course, the Fifers would go on to huge success by securing the League Two title.

“I came for a game last season but didn’t train with the boys,” said Wallace.

“I’d been going up to Nairn and they were desperate to get me and had offered me something which I had committed to and didn’t want to go back on.

“But I look back and East Fife won the league!

“These things happen in football but I have the chance now and I’m looking forward to it.”

This season there would be no hesitation from either party as Wallace finally joined the Fifers.

He made his debut as an official Fife player on Saturday as Spartans were brushed aside 4-0 in a friendly.

Now he just can’t wait to get going again and prove himself at senior level.

“I’ve been playing at BSC and then Nairn County and dropping down a level has given me a hunger to get back into the higher leagues,” he said.

“I have something to prove to people because I don’t think I was treated fairly at Morton.

“I don’t think I got a chance and people never got to see the best of me.

“Going away, playing games again and enjoying my football has given me a hunger to get back in and show people what I can do.”

The Fifers are looking to hit the ground running when the competitive stuff starts again and Wallace says it’s a dressing room high on confidence.

“I know Kyle Wilkie and Jonathan Page from playing before with them and they both told me to come in because I’d enjoy it,” said the midfielder.

“They were right because I’ve enjoyed every minute so far. The boys have been really sharp in training.

“There has been a lot of ball work but some tough, tough running with it.

“It’s enjoyable, but hard, and I’ve really loved pre-season.”
