Sauchie currently sit in third place, five points behind leaders Kennoway Star Hearts, but have six games in hand.

So, the hosts may be expected to claim all three points from Saturday’s game against ‘Port, but the visitors are in goalscoring form, having netted 15 goals in their last three matches.

Dale Reid tops the club’s scoring chart with nineteen goals so far this season, while several others have shown themselves capable of chipping in to help the cause.

“We’ve been asking the midfielders to get in amongst the goals and that has been happening recently, “ said player-boss John Ovenstone.

“Marc Ogg has scored seven this season, Sergio Alvarez scored on Saturday, as did Jamie Mackie who has been playing a more advanced role of late.

“Daniel Sanchez was unlucky not to score against Downfield, so we have guys who can help out the forwards.”

Ovenstone was really pleased with his team’s display at Downfield Park, saying: “I was delighted with our win and it was the best we’ve played all season.

“We’ve started to believe we can match the teams currently leading the league and they’ll now be looking over their shoulders at us.”
