We'll give the cup final our all

Dougie Herd’s men will carry the hopes of Fife, and in particular Levenmmouth, to the national stadium where they’ll face Colville Park.

Only twice in the competition’s history has a club from Fife returned with the prize – Norton House in 1988/89 and Star Hearts in 1974/75.

Leven, though, are looking to change all that.

Gaffer Herd said: “I think the boys are nervous but at the same time there is real excitement throughout the club. We are going in with the approach that we must enjoy our big day and give it our all effort wise both on and off the park.

“We have had four games a week since the semi-final and some guys are picking up niggling injuries which we hope will disappear for Sunday.

“There seems to have been a long, long gap since the semi-final and it’s been really difficult to keep the boys focused.”

Leven have been all conquering so far this season, and at the weekend booked their place in another final, beating Greig Park Rangers 3-1 in the semis of the Fence n Deck Cup.

“Saturday past was our 44th game and to date we have only had three defeats which is not bad going,” said Herd.

“I still think we’re pinching ourselves at the thought of getting to play at Hampden and for a small club like Leven we are extremely proud.”

And the club will be cheered from the rafters at Hampden, with at least half a dozen buses already booked for the journey.
