Glenrothes Juniors faced Whitburn in the East Superleague, hoping to continue their good work from last week with their two latest signings John Martin and Jordan Leslie included in the line up.
Whitburn started the game on the front foot but it was the visitors who opened the scoring. Brass’ header slipped by the past post before Glens broke and, from the resultant corner kick taken by Celentano, the ball flew directly into the net with the home defence looking at each other in disbelief.
One minute later a chip from trialist 2 skimmed the top of the crossbar. With 10 minutes played Whitburn thought they had equalised but the assistant referee had the flag up for offside then Thomson missed the target from a free kick 20 yards from goal.
On 14 minutes Gear made a fine save from Brass and a minute later against the run of play Glens increased their lead when a long throw in from Kinnes was flicked on by Martin and met by trialist 2 who headed past Russell.
The home side were giving their all to get back into the game leaving themselves open to the counter attack but the Glens could not find a killer third. On 43 minutes the home side scored which was no more than they deserved when Forrest found himself with room to shoot home and on 45 minutes Brass had a chance to equalise but his header missed the goal.
The game continued on a similar vein to the first half with Whitburn having the bulk of play and the Glens reduced to sporadic attacks on the break. On 50 minutes the home side had a strong shout for a penalty turned down by the referee and Docherty, Forrest and Duncan missed chances on the hour mark before Docherty missed a golden opportunity to equalise.
On 65 minutes. Glens were reduced to ten men when Anderson was shown a red card for comments made to an official. The Glens then made their first substitution L.Schiavone replaced Celentano. Whitburn were dominating possession and a fine run from Brass forced a save from Gear and on 83 minutes the home side got a deserved equaliser when a defensive mix up allowed Brass the easiest of chances to score. C. Schiavone then replaced Jamie Leslie. In one of the few Glens attacks L.Schiavone broke clear and with the goalkeeper to beat shot straight into Russell’s arms. Three minutes from time the home side were reduced to ten men when Duncan was shown a second yellow card and with the last kick of the game Glens should have notched the winner but Kinnes after a lung bursting effort from his own half saw his shot slip past the post.
Scott Napier a regular choice in the Glens midfield over the past few years ties the knot next Saturday and the club would like to take this opportunity to wish him and his good lady all the very best on this their special day.
