Win over rivals can be just the boost we need

St Andrews go close during their weekend defeat to Tranent.

That’s according to boss Ian Barrett who admits his side needs a reversal in fortunes after going down again at the weekend 1-0 to Tranent.

For United fans the defeat was groundhog day, with the side bombarding their opponents but not being able to net and then being caught with a late sucker punch.

The gaffer said: “It seems like a stuck record now with us but again we haven’t taken our chances when we’ve been on top in a game.

“Again we had a lot of pressure but can’t seem to buy a goal at the moment.”

On-loan striker Jordan Austin was brought to the club to try and solve the lack of cutting edge in front of goal but he has been recalled by parent club East Fife.

The manager handed his slot in the team to Daryl Falconer, the young striker impressing his gaffer.

“Daryl has had to wait for his chance but did well at the weekend.

“He went one on one a couple of times but just hesitated with him not having that sharpness.”

This weekend United make the short journey to face rivals Tayport on the Canniepairt.

“Tayport have been playing well but form goes out the window in derbies,” said the boss.

“I have a couple of plans up my sleeve for the game and hopefully a win will kick-start our season.”
