YM were unfortunate not to take at least a point from this McBookie.com South Division game, losing in added time to a disputed penalty kick.

Manager Andy Healy could not fault the tremendous effort from his young side as they gave everything, and it was a cruel way to lose a match when it looked certain they would come away with a point.

YM started well and had a couple of early chances with both Calum Geddes and Sam Graham eventually being snuffed out by the home defence.

Whitburn then started to dominate proceedings themselves and keeper Barry McKinnon had to make a couple of good saves to thrawt the livlely Gary Brass and Jason Walton.

YM took the lead after 35 minutes when a perfectly flighted cross ball from Liall Robertson was met by Calum Geddes and he headed his side in front.

This was the way it stood at half-time.

Whitburn edged possession in the second half with YM looking dangerous on the counter attack.

The YM defence held out until the 70th minute when substitute Lee Brown cut inside on the edge of the area and shot low past McKinnon to level the scores.

The match referee added on a total of seven extra minutes due to two lengthy injuries in the second half, and it was five minutes into this period that the home side were awarded a penalty when Luke Binnington was harshly adjudged to mistimed a tackle in the area.

Brass despatched the resultant kick to give his side the three points. It was cruel luck for the YM in a game which could have gone either way.
