Kirkcaldy YM came out of their 2-0 Fife and Lothians Cup defeat to Super League leaders Kelty Hearts with a great deal of credit.
Kelty have been brushing away all who have gone before them so far this season but found the young YM side well organised and difficult to break down.
The Super League side were always in control of the game but it took a goal in each half from their top scorer Stuart Cargill to secure their passage into the next round.
His first came after 11 minutes and a second seven minutes into the second half.
YM did have a couple of chances after the interval which both fell to Ryan Robertson but he couldn’t get the better of Kyle Allison in the visitors’ goal.
The young YM side had much to be satisfied with against their more illustrious opponents and never gave up the fight right to the final whistle.
On Saturday YM travel to Dundee Downfield.
Dundonald secured a safe passage through to the East of Scotland Cup after seeing off Brechin Vics 3-2 at Moorside.
Duffy, Lally and Morrison were the trio doing the damage.
Dundonald got the perfect start to the second half when Duffy fired the ball into the net from the edge of the box.
Brechin drew level before Lally fired Bluebell ahead again.
Brechin equalised but, with penalty kicks looming, Morrison wrapped up the tie.
On Saturday Dundonald welcome Dalkeith.
Thornton travel to Brechin Vics.
