However, a young St Monans team fought bravely to earn a share of the points.

It all started well for the home team when in five minutes an in swinging free kick from Gordon deceived goal keeper Sullivan and he only managed to punch the ball into the net for the opening goal.

The lead lasted only six minutes as Rintoul fired home.

Thistle were now in charge and their pressure paid off when former Swallow Barnes nudged a cross over the line.

The Balmullo outfit stretched their lead to two shortly after when a fierce free kick from outside the box flew under keeper Nee’s body. St Monans now needed to dig deep and they pulled one back on the stroke of half time when McGilvary’s free kick breached the wall and found the net.

The match really opened up in the second period but good goal keeping by Nee and stout defending by the Swallows back four kept the deficit at one.

The home team kept plugging away looking for the equaliser and it finally arrived in the very last minute of time added on.

A free kick from the right hand side was not cleared by the away defence and McGhie pounced and drove home the loose ball.

The match was sponsored by The Coal Farm, St Monans.
