Frustration builds as Flyers fans wait for news

The new ice hockey season is just 10 weeks away but Fife Flyers preparations have yet to gather pace.

So far only three signings have been confirmed - returnees Ryan Dingle, Shayne Stockton and Phil Paquet - with one or two more from last season’s side expected to follow suit.

With 11 imports still to be recruited between now and the end of August, as well as an entire core of British-born players, head coach Todd Dutiuame is sure to be a busy man behind the scenes.

But while Fife’s reticent approach is nothing new – the club traditionally lag behind the rest of the EIHL in its summer announcements – the lack of confirmed signings is leading to growing frustration among fans.

The Press has been unable to reach Todd Dutiaume in recent weeks, although the head coach did state last month that he was “happy with the recruitment so far and all going well should have a number of guys to announce shortly”.

Meanwhile, the Press understands that Flyers hopes of retaining Nico Sacchetti hang in the balance as the player considers early retirement in order to pursue a career in business.

The arrival of Sacchetti in December was a turning point in Flyers season as his 1.3 points per game ratio helped the Kirkcaldy side reach the play-off finals weekend in Nottingham, as well as finish level on points with Gardiner Conference winners Braehead Clan.
