Future looks bright for duo

Swimmer Ollie Carter, from Cupar, and archer Brad Stewart, of Ladybank, have both been selected for the Scottish Disability Sport Athlete Academy programme.

The programme has been set up to support performance athletes and players who have been identified as having the potential to progress on to World Class Performance Programmes (WCPP).

Those included are offered financial support at an important stage in their development and underpins the work of the sportscotland Institute of Sport (SIS).

SDS works in partnership with the SIS, Disability Sport Fife and other key partners to create a programme of training opportunities to meet the needs of athletes and players on their way to achieving their sporting goals.

Athletes are selected on strict performance criteria.

Each must be eligible to compete for Scotland and have aspirations of reaching a podium finish competing for a Great Britain team.

Some 36 athletes from eight sports have been selected for the 2016 programme.

A spokesman for Disability Sport Fife said it was delighted to see the inclusion of four of its young sports stars.

Other Fife athletes picked are Cara Smyth (swimming), from Dalgety Bay and Owen Miller (athletics) from Dunfermline.
