Glenrothes Cricket Club have pulled off a signing coup by snapping up Scotland’s top under 17 player.
Ben Wilkinson, who amassed over 1500 runs last season and was top run scorer for Scotland U17s, Inter Academy matches at U18 level and in the Fife T20 competition, has joined the club from Heriots CC ahead of the new season.
The highlight of his season was a fantastic 119 at Stirling for Scotland versus a strong Durham Academy side.
Ben stated: “I first experienced playing against Glenrothes at the Riverside Park when I was only 11 in a Forth Cricket Union (FCU) match.
“In the time since then the club has undergone massive changes both on and off the field and I am sure the next few years will bring another huge change for the better in the fortunes of the club.
“I’m really looking forward to challenging for promotion in 2014 and along with all my new team mates, hope to see Glenrothes playing in the CSL Premier League once the 2015 season comes around.”
Club Chairman Eddie Gibbs added; “We’ve followed Ben’s progress as a developing young cricketer for a number of years.
“As one of the countries most exciting young cricketers, we are absolutely delighted that Ben has decided to switch to us ahead of the new season.
“We are determined to ensure our growing ambitions as a club match his personal targets as a player.
“What already promised to be an exciting season with Graeme Beghin and Scott Lucas joining us has now gone up a notch further with Ben coming on board.”
Glenrothes CC will be training on Sunday, February 16 at Kinross High School from 10.00 a.m, with coaching by former Scotland captain Ryan Watson and international bowler Dewald Nel.
