2014 was quite a year for the Glenrothes Rugby Club first XV.
The report card for the past 12 months shows 22 competitive wins from 24 matches, an unblemished home record, the Midlands Bowl, promotion to Caledonia One and runners-up medals from the National Bowl final.
The squad has grown in stature and confidence over the year and the players and supporters are clearly enjoying the higher standard of opposition and the excitement that brings to match days.
The curtain came down on the year with an uncompromising 11-try, 61-0 home win over league strugglers Ellon.
That win and Orkney’s match against Morgan being postponed meant that Glens ended the year at the top of the league and in the final of the Caledonia Shield – not many would have predicted that at the start of the year.
The first XV go into 2015 in good spirits and full of hope that they can again do something special particularly as it is the clubs’ 50th anniversary.
The first match of the new year takes place at Carleton Park this Saturday with fifth placed Strathmore the visitors.
Kick-off is at 2.00 p.m.
