Glenrothes teenager Lucy Walkup is set to take part in the 2015 World Deaf Swimming Championships.
The Stirling University undergraduate joined Team GB for a successful training camp at Crystal Palace in London in preparation for the Championships which take place in Texas from August 17-22.
UK Deaf Sport is responsible for team GB involvement in the Championships.
Lucy now trains with Stirling Swimming Club and her coach is Kerry Martin.
The past year has involved significant changes for her in swimming, studies and location. True to form however, the young Fife student has adapted well and travels to the USA in the knowledge that she has prepared well for this great sporting occasion and is hoping for a podium spot.
Lucy has always been a very active member of Disability Sport Fife and over the years she has benefitted greatly from the expertise and support provided by the coaches from Glenrothes and Carnegie Swimming Clubs.
Family, friends and the local Fife community have once again rallied around her to access the funding necessary to meet the significant costs of involvement in the World Championships as performance deaf sportsmen and women do not receive the same levels of financial support as other high performance disabled sports people.
