The magnificent original Victorian trophy is in the British Golf Museum in St Andrews and the club now plays for a more modern cup.

This year, the competition was held on the Ferntower Course at Crieff, with 33 members playing in fine conditions despite some challenging winds.

The morning competition was for the ‘Peri’ trophy itself and produced a very close finish.

Colin Knight won the trophy with a net 71 but only won with a better inward nine from runner-up Robbie Sibanda.

Last year’s winner John Stevenson put up a great defence to finish in third place.

The longest drive competition was won by Dod Player, with Lee Munro claiming the prize for nearest the pin.

The afternoon event was an enjoyable Texas Scramble on the Dornock Course for 11 teams.

The winners were the team of Sandy Young, Dod Player and Keith Ridley, who returned a winning score of gross 31 for the nine holes in some blustery conditions.

The outing returned to Cupar for a well-earned meal and refreshments, after which Cupar club captain, Keith Ridley, presented the ‘Peri’ trophy and prizes.

He congratulated Colin Knight and the other winners, and thanked The Greenhouse Bar & Grill for its excellent hospitality and all those who had been involved in organising the event, particularly John Stevenson and Derek Murray.

Vice-captain John Stevenson presented the prizes for the Texas Scramble and then club president, Joe Manson, added his own traditional contribution to the awards.

It had been a great day and the ‘Peri’ continues to hold a very special place in the Cupar Golf Club calendar.

The club is still active with competitions and social events.
