The event, which is open to both men and women, was due to celebrate its 15th anniversary last year but sadly fell victim to the coronavirus pandemic.

It will now take place on Sunday, August 29.

Organisers of the golf day are now looking for support both through sign-ups, sponsorship and the donation of prizes – all to help raise vital funds for Maggie’s.

A team of four costs £199, which includes a bacon roll with tea or coffee and a two-course meal, with prizes for the first, second and third-placed teams as well as a chance to beat the pro, longest drives and nearest to pins.

There is also the opportunity to sponsor a hole for £100.

Previous years have proved hugely successful, raising £114,000 for Maggie’s Fife since its inception.

Organiser Dave Foster said: “Naturally, we were disappointed to have to cancel last year’s golf day as it’s always such a popular event.

"Golfers often come back year after year, so we look forward to welcoming back some familiar faces and hopefully seeing some new ones too.

"If you have not attended before it is great value, a super golf course, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming.

"It’s also a great way to support the important work at Maggie’s.”

Fellow organiser, Shona Hutchison, Gillian’s sister, added: “I am really looking forward to the golf day this year and raising some much-needed funds for the Maggies Centre here in Fife.

The generosity of the teams that take part is unbelievable and I would like to thank them for their support every year.”

Adam Kent, from Maggie’s, said the event was hugely important for the charity.

He said: “We are delighted the event will return again this year.

" After a year where little or no physical fundraising events were able to take place, it is exciting to have a date in the diary to look forward to.

"The funds raised by those taking part have helped us to support thousands of people living or caring for someone with cancer.”
