Less than two weeks later, she found herself lining up for her debut half with LLV’s Ruth Cruickshanks on the start line of the Hamburg Half Marathon.

Both finished well, determined to continue their excellent progress in the world of running.

Some 76 runners took part in the annual Sandy Slither, a 6-mile run from Lower Largo to Elie.

A cooling tailwind made the running slightly easier for the 12 LLV members taking part.

The first part of the route was along the beach from Largo.

Runenrs were soon wading across the Cocklemill Burn then clambering up the bank to make their way through Shell Bay Caravan Park before making the ascent at Kncraig.

The descent to Earlsferry over irregular rocky steps takes skill and nerve to run quickly.

Cheering spectators watched competitors streaming along the beach at Elie to finish on the sand outside The Ship Inn.

First LLV home was Andy Cargill who finished in eighth place with club mates Gordon Christie, Iain Wallace, Tam Cullen, Dan Haran, Terry Cullen, John Kay, Bryan McLaren, George Stewart, Robin Pate and Grant Stevenson not too far behind. Allen Marr continued his impressive improvements of late by taking fourteen minutes off his time for last years’ run.

At Kirkcaldy parkrun, members Davie Hogg and Peter Rieu-Clarke both set personal bests.
