Howe of Fife greats returning to cut the ribbon at new base

Dave Rollo, Peter Horne, Chris Fusaro and Fergus Thomson all played with the Duffus Park club before going on to have full international honours.

And when asked, all were keen to return to Cupar on Sunday, August 14 cut the ribbon to offocially open the new £1.25m facility which boasts eight modern changing rooms, a refurbished grandstand, a function suite and a community cafe.

Howe president Murdo Fraser said plans for the new building had started five years ago when club members decided they wanted facilities fit for the twenty first century.

This included capacity to cope with two senior mens teams, the ladies team - Howe Harlequins - and a full slate of mini and midi teams.

“The opening will be an opportunity for youngsters to come along and meet former Howe players who have gone on to the highest levels in the game, as well as play some touch rugby with our own players,” said Mr Fraser.

“We will also be able to invite the public to look around our fantastic new facility.”

A a formal unveiling of a plaque in September where major funders will be invited along to view the new premises has also been scheduled by the club.

There wil also be a community open day to follow where neighbouring sports clubs and organisations in the area could view the new facilities.

“While the Howe have put this all together, the facility is very much intended for use by the wider community,” added the club president.

“Cupar does not have a surfeit of meeting places and this will be a welcome additional base for local organisations.

“Howe of Fife now has a business development manager, Cheryl King, who would be delighted to meet local groups and show them around the new premises.”

Mr Fraser also thanked Fife Voluntary Action for their invaluable support in helping to bring the project to fruition.
