Hundreds descend on Kinghorn for iconic Black Rock 5 race

Almost 1200 runners will descend on Kinghorn tonight for the annual Black Rock 5 race.

Most of the places for the unique event sold out within 100 minutes online with the reserve places held back for postal entry gone within a fortnight.

The iconic race - one of the biggest in Scotland - starts at the bottom of Harbour Road at 7.45 p.m with the route taking runners across the beach, around the Black Rock, and back to the Ship Tavern in Kinghorn.

Three previous winners are included in tonight’s field - last year’s champion Murray Strain, Neil Renault and Ross Houston.

Race organiser John McKay has vowed to double the prize for the winner if the long-standing course record of 22.03 is beaten.

There is also a prize for first to the rock in memoriam of Bill Tulloch who marshalled at the the rock for most of the event’s 23-year history.
