Inspired by the huge response to Raith Rovers’ crowdfunder – which is closing in on its £50,000 target – Lauren Campbell is hoping to rally the Flyers faithful for a similar fundraising drive.

With no official appeal made by the club, the 32-year-old former NHS worker has taken it upon herself to create the Fife Flyers Supporters Fund, setting an initial target of £2500 via the Go Fund Me website.

Lauren, who lives in Lochgelly and runs the unofficial Flyers forum website, now hopes the club will endorse her initiative.

“When you look at the success Raith have had there’s no reason why Flyers couldn’t benefit from something like that as well,” she said.

“It just shows that with good engagement, and putting it out there, the potential is there for these things to actually raise money.

“Even if it just comes to a one-off thing where we can sponsor a player, or help with travel costs, then it would be worthwhile.

“My hope would be for the club to get behind it, and to get some discussion going between the fans and the club, because there’s still that disconnect there.

“The forum at The Bay Hotel showed there’s a lot of people willing to do things to help, and it’s just trying to bridge that gap.”

The club has opted not to set up its own fund, despite admitting to ‘extremely challenging’ times following the cancellation of the final two home matches of the season against Glasgow Clan and Coventry Blaze.

Director Jack Wishart explained: “We don’t want to be asking people for money at the moment given the current situation.

“There is too much unknown at the moment.

“We don’t know when the league is going to start, or if it’s going to start. We just don’t know what’s going to happen.”

On supporting Lauren’s fundraising initiative, Mr Wishart added: “We thank her for wanting to help the club in that way.

“We’re not in dire debt, but the club is always needing money.

“We’re rely on bums on seats and the numbers haven’t been great this season, so we welcome any extra support.”
