The sport’s biggest weekend was scheduled for April 11 at Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena with 8000 fans from across all ten EIHL teams filling the venue each day.

The outbreak of coronavirus forced its cancellation, along with the play-off quarter-finals and the end of the regular season.

Fife Flyers have tweeted updated information for supporters who had booked to travel, and promised an update on hotel packages later this evening.

Both the club and the league appealed to fans to be patient as they handled refunds.

A league spokesman said: “The box office in Nottingham is dealing with many thousands of enquiries following the cancellation of dozens of events in addition to the ice hockey and its operations have has been significantly reduced due to the enforced closure of the building.”

Any tickets not refunded will automatically be valid for the Magic Five event which the league hopes to use as a celebration of the return of the sport in the autumn.

The aim is to bring all ten clubs to Nottingham for a weekend of ice hockey with the games counting for league points.

The outline plan is five games across one weekend - three on Saturday and two on Sunday with the EIHL promising “a spectacular launch for the return of top-flight ice hockey.”

A date for the event has yet to be confirmed with everything on hold until the coronavirus outbreak has been resolved
