FIFE Flyers have turned down an offer to join the Elite League.

SportsPress can reveal that Elite club owners have held discussions with Fife chairman Tom Muir, inviting the Northern League champions into the 10-import set-up next season. The offer was declined.

Eamon Convery, chairman of the EIHL, confirmed: “Discussions did take place but they did not come to fruition.

“Tom Muir did not feel that it was what he wanted for his team and we wish him success in whatever his future plans are.

“We’re keen to have Fife in the league, they are a well-established and well-supported club, and the door remains open.”

The decision appears to have sparked a fans revolt with an online petition calling for directors to take the club into the Elite League receiving 227 signatures, and counting, since it was first posted on on Monday.

Mr Convery added: “If fans are coming out in those numbers so quickly then we’ve got to see if we can find a solution.”

No-one from Fife Flyers was available to comment.
