Ice hockey club's fundraiser to help future Fife stars

Kirkcaldy Ice Hockey Club are appealing to Fife Flyers fans to help their potential stars of the future for just the price of a match ticket.

The Fife Ice Arena opened up on October 9, allowing youngsters to get back on the ice for the season, and the club’s chairman, Ian Keddie, is hopeful that a new crowdfunding campaign will give the up-and-coming players the help they need, and he is also appealing to local businesses to get involved.

He said: “We've had a number of sponsors at the club over the past few years, but one of the main ones has backed out this year, and it will be very difficult to find a replacement who would contribute to the club at the same level that they had, so we came up with a couple of fundraising ideas.

“Firstly, we have the crowdfunder and on the web page we have a video which we hope will appeal to Fifers and the wider ice hockey community to give us some support.

“The video highlights how far some of the kids have come.

“Our ultimate goal is to supply players to the Fife Flyers, and if every Flyers fan was to donate the price of just one match ticket it would make a huge difference to the way we can help the kids, get them more ice time and give them the benefit of more games.”

The web page, at uk.gofundme.com/f/kirkcaldy-ice-hockey-club, has a goal of £5,000, with some of the money raised going towards streaming matches live.

Mr Keddie said: “We want to buy more ice time at the weekends and get other teams in to play games, once we're allowed to do that, and stream them online, so if the parents are sitting in the car park or at home, then they will have the means to be able to do that.

The club’s second initiative is to have local businesses sponsor a player.

"We are asking businesses to give us just £10 a month for the seven months of our season, from November to May,” Mr Keddie said. “In return they will get publicity through our social media.

“We've done some Q&As with some of the players that have been sponsored so far, 44 out of the 80.

“It's another thing that would make a huge difference.”
