Josh Scoon has put pen to paper for a sixth season with Fife Flyers.

The Kirkcaldy born forward was added to the roster this week as the club continues its team building ahead of the face-off in September.

Scoon, who made his debut in 2010-11, is likely to reunite on the third line with Danny Stewart, associate coach.

But he will be stepping back into a very different looking dressing room as Flyers rebuild after an unsatisfying 2014-15 campaign saw them labour to make the play-offs and fail to challenge in the trophy stakes.

Stewart welcomed Scoon back, commenting: “Josh brings a great deal of positivity and energy in the room.

“He will provide us with some added depth on the right side, and will be able to compete for a third line role once again.”

Scoon’s return comes just days after Flyers added new centreman Justin Fox to their roster, but the club has yet to draft in any new UK based players - something many fans feel is key to strengthening the bench ahead of the new EIHL season.

Flyers have effectively run with the same core of home based players - Scoon, Tommy Muir, Chris Wands, Jamie Wilson, Kyle Horne and Stephen Gunn - since moving back into top flight hockey.

All are back, so far, with the exception of experienced defenceman Horne, who missed the latter stages of last season through injury. A fit again Horne would be a shoe-in for one of the berths to be filled.

And with five blue liners and seven forwards announced, there are still several spots to be filled - the Press understands many have been finalised already with announcements to follow in the coming few weeks ahead of the opening pre-season challenge games at the end of August.

Flyers confirmed this week they would open the season with an exhibition game against Belfast Giants in Kirkcaldy on Saturday, August 29 - a match which marks the return of fans’ favourite Matt Nickerson to his new club - and then away to Edinburgh Capitals on the 30th before opening their EIHL campaign with a double header against Coventry Blaze on September 5-6.
