Tributes paid as former Fife Flyer Norrie Boreham passes away

Former Fife Flyers star of the 1960s and 70, Norrie Boreham, has passed away.

Originally from Edinburgh, Boreham carried out his National Service then played for the Capital side Murrayfield Royals before crossing to Forth to sign for Fife Flyers in 1966.

Nicknamed ‘Rocket’ he played on the left wing and was a mainstay of the side Kirkcaldy until 1975.

His former team mate Les Lovell described him as “an energetic, speedy winger”.

“He was always rushing about, he was a really good player,” he said.

“He was a nice lad and really good to play with. He was very popular with the supporters at the time.”

After leaving Flyers Boreham emigrated to Calgary, Canada in the early 1980s and remained in the country for the rest of his life.

“Norrie was a clever chap,” Lovell says, “he was a talented engineer. He worked in the British Leyland plant at Bathgate.

“He was a nice guy. “He was back over here about a year ago and I saw him then.

“It’s sad to hear that he has passed away.

“I’ll miss him.”
