Tributes paid to former Fife Flyers' team manager, Jim McLean

Former Fife Flyers team manager, Jim McLean, has passed away.

He was a familiar figure on the bench for several seasons during the Heineken era, working with the late Jack Dryburgh who was coach..

Jim was hugely respected by the players, and was a regular rinkside for many seasons after serving with the team in the late 1980s.

He was part of the squads which included imports such as Al Sims, Jim Lynch and Fred Perlini, and a core of home based players which featured Gordon Latto, the Wood brothers, Neil Abel and young skaters such as Dean Edmiston and Bobby Haig.

Posting on the Old Time British Hockey Appreciation page on Facebook, Flyers’ import Steve Moria said: “Very sad news - he was great to me during my time at Fife.”

Jim, who hailed from West Wemyss, and grew up in Dysart, was also a lifelong Raith Rovers season ticket holder, and a regular on the terraces at Stark’s Park.
