Improved performance required against Sauchie

Tayport will be hoping for a much improved performance tomorrow when they travel to take on Sauchie in the East of Scotland Cup.

Having been humbled 4-0 at home to Bo’ness United, ‘Port will be looking to get back on track at the impressive Beechwood Park, where they have enjoyed previous success.

Back in 2005-06, the Canniepairt men won 4-1 in a third round Scottish Junior Cup tie.

Current coaches, Steven Stewart and Grant Paterson, two of the most decorated players in the junior game, were both heavily involved that day.

Stewart scored his side’s fourth goal, from his own half of the field, while Paterson was making his 100th appearance in the national cup competition.

Of this year’s squad, Ross Gunnion, Brian Livie, Robbie Henderson, Barry McNaughton and Roberto Morris also played that afternoon and these players all have a great deal of experience under their belts.

Sauchie are currently plying their trade in the third tier of the East Region set-up, but are well-placed to earn promotion this season.

Unbeaten in the league, Sauchie have won five out of five at home, scoring 26 goals in the process.

They also reached the fourth round of the Emirates Scottish Junior Cup, losing out to Ayrshire giants Auchinleck Talbot last Saturday.

So manager Willie Garner knows that Tayport will certainly have a tough match on their hands tomorrow.
