Fife Flyers coach Todd Dutiaume expects big things from latest signing Jamie Wilson next season.
The long-serving Kirkcaldy lad was confirmed as the ninth member of Flyers’ 2015-16 roster this week.
Wilson has been part of the Flyers organisation since making his debut aged 17 in the BNL in 2004.
He was in and out of the side last season but Dutiaume is expecting a more consistent Wilson next season.
“This is not targeted specifically to Jamie - we all need to up our game and Jamie is one of them,” Dutiaume said.
“He’s been part of the team for a long time and is a previous captain of this club.
“The last time I spoke to Jamie he was working incredibly hard off the ice and really motivated to have a good solid season.
“As a coach when you see guys putting in the hard work it’s certainly encouraging.
“Not everybody knows our local guys have come a long way in the last four years but they know they have more and want to prove it.
“I’ve known some of these guys since they were little kids and I want to see them succeed and realise their full potential.
“I think these guys are getting the message. Don’t be afraid to do the hard work and to try your best.
“Win or fail it’s a golden opportunity for them and I, for one, want to see a guy like Jamie Wilson have the best season of his career.”
Dutiaume also gave his thoughts on Manchester Storm replacing the now defunct Hull Stingrays in next season’s Elite League.
“It’s obviously a shame that things couldn’t be worked out in Hull,” he said.
“But it was important that the league acted quickly and made sure an organisation was willing to step in.
“It was crucial to keep the even number of teams or it would just throw the schedule into chaos and put a black mark against the league.
“I’m sure Manchester people are excited and looking forward to a new challenge.
“It’s a different look for us which is good - I just hope it leads to more league stability.”
Flyers were closing in on their next signing as we went to press last night (Wednesday). An annoucement is expected before the weekend.
