The 60cm class winner was Monty Aplin riding Rocky who managed to ride a clear round in a faster jump off time than Piper Watch and Alice in Wonderland, who collected the second place rosette.

Auchtermuchty-based eventer Jen McGregor had a very successful day, recording wins in the 70cm and 80cm classes.

Jen rode Jack Daniels, an eight-year-old, whom she has owned since May 2015.

Together, they have completed a few BE events but the highlight of 2015 for them was winning the reserve working hunter championship at Blair Atholl horse trials.

They have also been out showjumping and plan to do some showing next year when it arrives.

In the 80cm class, Jen rode Heaven ( stable name Bingo ), a 7 year old horse that she bought as a project 18 months ago.

Bingo had competed in BS affiliated showjumping before coming to live with Jen but has now added some dressage to his repertoire, winning a total of seven out of eight tests completed.

Both horses seemed to really enjoy the Showcross course so Jen has high hopes for them in 2017.

The final class of the day was claimed by Milly Morrison and Delilah.

Showcross returns to Highfield at Howe for a whole weekend in January with classes from crosspoles upwards.

Entries for this event are now open.

The first event of the New Year at Howe Country Centre is a dressage competition specifically for children on January 2.

There are classes suitable for all levels of training and entries will also be taken from adults, if there is space in the class.
