Kingdom ace Derek is voted Fife athlete of the year

Fife long distance runner Derek Rae was voted athlete of the year at the recent Disability Sport Fife Awards Evening.

Fife AC’s Derek is coached by St Andrews based Ron Morrison and has been included on the long list of athletes being considered for the Paralympic Games in Rio in September.

His most recent performance of note was running a marathon personal best time of 2:37.28 at the IPC World Cup held as part of the 2016 London Marathon.

Fife AC juniors Tristan Rees and Anna Hedley produced the performances of the night at the Kirkcaldy Parks (Create & Prosper) Race Series, placing first male and female.

U20 Tristan won from Ben Hukins in a Beveridge Park 5k course record of 15.25.

U13 Anna Hedley was first female and an impressive 17th overall in an excellent time of 18.36.

At the Kinnoul Hill Race, organised by Perth Strathtay Harriers, Fife AC’s Logan Rees took the victory in 24.38 from Jamie Stevenson (Ochil Hill Runners) 24.48.
