The Scottish Pan-Disability Open – for the Sidey Cup – runs from August 22-25 at the Green Hotel Golf & Leisure Resort. Around 40 disabled golfers from around Europe and the USA will play the Kinross Montgomerie and Bruce golf courses over the four days.

Springfield’s Jim Gales, SDG event organiser and secretary, said: “Some 11 European competitions in the likes of Portugal, the Czech Republic, Sweden and Italy will also play a major part in our season, with many of our members travelling to qualifying events for their world ranking contests.”

“The ‘EuroDisabled Golf Tour’ is supported by the likes of PING Europe and Ambassadors like Lee Westwood, so it is quite prestigious.”

Jim is also one of several Fife players selected to take on the ‘Auld Enemy’ at the Cardrona Resort & Hotel near Peebles in a Ryder Cup match.

The event will take place from September 11-14 and consist of foursome, fourball and singles match play competitions.

Derek Milne of Upper Largo, Paul Ellison of St Andrews, Bob Drysdale of Tayport and Trevor Crombie of Kirkcaldy are the other Kingdom players in the squad.

The golfers have been selected from the Scottish Order of Merit Championship Tables, and represent all disability categories, travelling from around the country to represent Scotland.

Team captain, Alan Robertson, from Stirling said: “Scotland will try to defend the title, after we won the Auld Enemies Cup at the Shire Golf club in London in 2014 by a good margin. I have picked a good squad, so let’s hope we can win it convincingly.”

Other Scots players include Andy Gardiner of Fritwell, Kevin Harmison from Bedlington, John Irvine (Blyth), Jim Thomson (Millport), John Pennycott of Arran and Scott Anderson (Aberdeen).
