Kirkcaldy keen to escape danger zone with win over Ardrossan

The Ayrshire side are still without a win but lie second bottom in the table thanks to their three bonus points.

Two of these were earned last week in a narrow 38-36 loss to promotion seeking Kelso and that performance will have been noted at Beveridge Park.

When Ardrossan last played in Kirkcaldy the week before Christmas last year they came close to snatching victory. Only a last minute do or die tackle stopped an attacker who had a three man over lap waiting for a scoring pass to remove Kirkcaldy’s four point lead.

Three months before that when the teams met in Ardrossan the home team wiped out a 38-21 Kirkcaldy lead to secure a rousing victory within the last ten minutes.

Although going under 36-30 at Cartha QP, Kirkcaldy produced a much more rounded performance than against Whitecraigs two weeks ago and with better fortune might have beaten the league leaders.

When Ardrossan visited this Glasgow venue, a week before Kirkcaldy did, they were wiped out to the tune of 38-3 but their result against Kelso suggests an improvement in form.

The Blues had a couple of late injury call-offs last week in Steve Milne and Connor Wood and reports suggest they will be fit this week.

Head coach Quintan Sanft is still searching for a New Zealand import having been unsuccessful with two previous candidates who opted to move to professional clubs.

Another Kiwi is currently under consideration and Sanft is hopeful that he will meet his criteria.

Kirkcaldy seconds are having a tough time in the Midlands Division 2 having lost all their games so.

Last season they were in much the same position in early October, but recovered sufficiently strongly to finish in the top half of the table.

This week they travel to play Crieff and Strathearn.

Meanwhile, Kirkcaldy Ladies have secured sponsorship for the 2016-17 season from the Kirkcaldy High Street bar and restaurant The Tipsy Cow.

The Ladies are next in action on Sunday at home to Greenock Wanderers, kick-off 2.00 p.m, where they will be looking for their first league win of the season.

New players are always welcome at the club – training takes place on a Wednesday at Beveridge Park, 6.00 to 7.00 p.m for Under 15/18 girls and 7.00 to 8:30 p.m for seniors.
