Kirkcaldy travel to Kelso free from relegation worry

Kirkcaldy travel this Saturday to Kelso for what should have been the final league game of the season but the two postponements at Whitecraigs and Ardrossan will take the 15-a-side programme into mid April.

With the two points gained from the Peebles game the Blues are now free from any relegation worry and will concentrate on these last three games in an effort to take them up into mid table.

When the sides met at Beveridge Park in November the Borders side were comfortable winners and at that time were thought to be odds on favourites to take the league title.

However, they have stumbled along the way and last Saturday had a heavy defeat at prospective champions Cartha QP by a 37-19 margin.

Nevertheless they are likely to finish second and will still remain a formidable barrier for the Blues at Poynder Park.

Of the 16 league games played between Kirkcaldy and Kelso the Blues have won six, only one of which was at Poynder Park and that was 14 years ago.

Kirkcaldy may be encouraged this time by Kelso’s recent dip in form, which may be attributable to the departure for home of the overseas players who have bolstered their ranks this term.

If Kirkcaldy are to have any chance of victory this week they just cannot afford to be so prodigal at goal as they were against Peebles.

Goal kicker Craig Letham missed that Peebles game and it is hoped he will be fit to travel to the Borders.
