Largo prevail against depleted Gargunnock

The visitors arrived with a somewhat depleted side and were generously helped when fielding by the presence of Largo substitute fielders.

Batting first, Largo ran into immediate difficulties, losing their first three wickets for only eight runs.

Galloway and Ian Brown then restored some respectability to the total, taking the score to 60 before Galloway, looking in prime form on 36, lost his wicket.

Brown, perhaps not in the impressive form of the previous weekend, nevertheless continued to find gaps in the field, holding the innings together with Sandhu (17) and later Caddick (27 not out) before he was eventually dismissed for a well deserved 63.

The Gargunnock innings started in similar fashion to Largo, whose opening bowlers Warrender and Parkhill each dismissed the openers for ducks.

A swift Largo victory looked likely but Naris, Green and Kelly all provided stubborn resistance before Largo finally prevailed.

Howard Coates continued his impressive sequence of catches as the game moved into its final stages.

Final scores: Largo 169 for 9 wickets, Gargunnock 117.

The day before there was time for some end of season fun for Largo CCs junior cricketers and their families and friends.

From thevolunteers who signed up to play six teams were selected.

Playing in a kwikcricket style tournament each team had a mix of players ranging from those who had never held a bat or bowled a ball before to seasoned veterans.

The teams led by juniors Ben and Samuel both having won their first three matches just had to met in the final fourth round of matches with Ben’s team coming out on top.

A spokesman for the club said: “Although there were probably a few aches and pains among the less experienced cricketers this was an event enjoyed by one and all.”

The ladies taking part will have benefited from the practice before the club’s ladies day on September 17.
