Malcom makes a welcome return from injury

A year after struggling with training injuries to run his first ever marathon at the age of 60, Leven Las Vegas member Malcolm MacTavish returned to the Netherlands to take part in the Amsterdam Marathon.

It still wasn’t all plain sailing for Malcolm who needed first aid treatment after falling a couple of miles from the start.

Undeterred, he kept on going to finish in 4hrs 35 mins, a well deserved personal best for the 26.2 miles distance.

There were more challenges for Leven Las Vegas runners up in Aviemore where mother and daughter Sarah and Collette Ives took on their very first half marathon.

Starting high in the Glenmore Forest Park, the 13.1 mile course took runners on a very scenic route around Loch Morlich and through the forest before finishing in Aviemore.

The pair were ably advised and assisted by LLV half marathon veteran Lorna Hughes and all three completed the run well inside their expected times.

No doubt Josephine Lenachan was wishing for some cool mountain air as she ran in 27 degree temperatures at the Palma de Mallorca Half Marathon on the same day, where the route took in the cobbled streets of the old town and a long stretch along the sea front promenade.

At parkruns there were steady runs for the twenty or so LLV taking part with the notable exceptions of Robin Pate and Tam Cullen who set pbs. Akira O’Connor won at St Andrews and Angela Johnston set a personal best by over a minute in Pollock Park, Glasgow.
