For Robin Pate and Davie Hogg it was the longest distance event they had even taken on since taking up running and the cumulation of weeks of training after joining LLV in June last year.

As they faced the unknown, wondering what they had let themselves in for, club mate Malcolm Mactavish knew exactly what he faced in this, his second marathon.

There was no need to worry and all three completed their challenge comfortably with Robin finishing well under four hours, with Davie slightly later and Malcolm finishing in just over the five hours.

This event was just one of a myriad number of events LLV participated in the last couple of weeks.

Robyn Warrender took on and completed her very first ultra marathon, The John Muir Way Ultra 50k (30 miles) from Port Seton to Dunbar where LLV local Ben Hukins took first place overall, running for RonHill Cambuslang, finishing in 3hrs 44mins.

The Thursday evening Kinross 10k saw Kenny Ritchie make a welcome return to running events accompanied by club mates Jeff Taylor, Colin Smith, Gordon Taylor and Tracey Millar.

At the St Andrews 5k, held around the flat grassy university playing fields, LLV were again strongly featured with Akira O’Connor taking fifth place and three LLV finishing in the top ten and five in the top twenty out of a field of 115 competitors.

In the Kirkcaldy and St Andrews parkruns, personal bests were again the order of the day with Tam Cullen, Allen Marr, Jeff Taylor and Fiona Russell getting pbs.

Fiona’s performance was especially impressive, gaining three pbs in as many weeks after starting training with the LLV Absolute Beginners section just over a month ago.

The week was finished off by Robin Pate, only a few days after his first marathon, travelling north for the hilly and tough Callender 10k Trail Race.

Robin finished well in just under 52 minutes

Leven Las Vegas meets on Tuesday evenings at 6.30 pm in the foyer of Leven Leisure Centre.
