University of St Andrews staff and research students were part of successful teams representing St Ayles Rowing Club Anstruther (five members), Crail Rowing Club (two) and Pittenweem Rowing Club (four).

Rhona McLaren, who rowed for Gold at the Skiffie Worlds with her Anstruther Women’s Open team, said: “Local clubs frequently meet at regional regattas which involve travelling with families, friends and neighbours, and a skiff in tow to beautiful corners of Scotland – and now Northern Ireland.

“Although there can be a competitive edge to the races, the skiff rowing community exudes a spirit of inclusiveness and diversity, bringing together rowers from all ages, backgrounds and nationalities.

“There is a real festival atmosphere at these regattas.”
