Last Thursday, the penultimate round of matches took place in the men’s Super League and the results saw leaders Lochgelly ‘A’ run out convincing winners at the Barley Sheaf, winning by eight sets to nil against Dunfermline A to be crowned champions for the third year in succession.
Elsewhere, Cowdenbeath were at home at the Junction Barand they ran out 5-3 winners against Glenrothes to take advantage of East Fife not having a game and move up into second place, while Lochgelly B won by six sets to two against Dunfermline ‘B’ in their match at the Railway Tavern. One of the final fixtures in the Ladies’ Super League will be held this Thursday as, in a sporting gesture by the Auld Shank side because of a few members of the Kennoway Bowling Club’s team having holidays booked for when the tie was originally scheduled, they have agreed to bring the match forward, so both teams can be at full-strength for the title-decider which will be contested in Kennoway. This is a big match for both sides and Kennoway have the narrowest of leads going into the match, as they only lead the Ballingry team by one point and with the championship up for grabs it will be a cracking game between the two sides. For anyone interested in going along to watch, the game starts at 8pm. Whatever the result, it is sure to be a good game. Also on Thursday evening, the next monthly meeting of Fife Darts Association will be held in the CISWO, Glenrothes from 7.30pm. This weekend sees darts players descend upon the CISWO as the 2012 Fife Open takes place over the course of Saturday and Sunday. The closing date was this Monday so all entries should have been submitted by now. The Youth Open held in conjunction with the main event will be played on Sunday where the winner will receive a prize plus £120 subsistence money to assist with travelling to the WINMAU national finals. Competitors are reminded that play on the Saturday has a 9.30am registration for a 10.30am commencement.
