A THORNTON basketball player hopes that a new wheelchair will help propel him to a Scotland cap.

Jonny Brown was able to buy the equipment thanks to help from Rotary Clubs in Kirkcaldy.

The 23 year-old suffers from cerebral palsy, but is a fanatical and accomplished sportsman who excels at athletics and swimming, although wheelchair basketball is his first love and for many years he has travelled each week to compete with the Lothian Phoenix.

Over the past few years his competition progress has been curtailed by not having a bespoke basketball wheelchair chair, but that obstacle has now been removed

In response to a plea from Disability Sport Fife, Rotarians donated £400 to assist Jonny to buy his chair and also also made a donation to the fund.

Jonny himself saved furiously over a number of years to make the final total.

DSF chairman, Richard Brickley, said: “Now that the very talented young athlete has his new chair, he is already experiencing significant changes in his playing ability.”

“That dream of representing Scotland has now become more of a reality.”
