ROADS around Leven hosted some of Scotland’s leading cyclists recently in the fifth edition of the Duncan McGregor Memorial Road Race.

Commonwealth Games medallist James McCallum (Rapha Condor Sharp) took the honours in the event, which was also round three of the Scottish Power Renewables Super Six Series.

The 75-mile race, over three laps of a tough circuit plus a small finishing section, was contested in conditions that suggested all four seasons had visited the Levenmouth environs within little more than three hours.

A downpour shortly before the roll out was replaced by a thick haar, which eventually burned off to be replaced by warm sunshine and a strong wind.

However, a hail storm and heavy shower in the closing stages completed the full circle. Ground conditions were also far from ideal, with areas of surface water at various points on the route.

The circuit featured a climb at Largo, pictured left, and a stretch which passed the golf course at Lundin, as well as a section in Leven, while the event also featured a women’s race.
