THE Fife AC women’s distance squad raced its way to team bronze medals at the Scottish 5km Road Race Championships held at Silverknowes last week.

Recently-married Hester Burt (nee Dix) spearheaded the Fife challenge in a magnificent fourth place, timed at 17 minutes 08 seconds in only her second outing following a lengthy period of injury over the winter months. Morgan Windram-Geddes and Sara Parkinson followed in 16th and 17th respectively to place third team behind Edinburgh and Central AC.

Further success came as Addy Gerrard powered her way to the over-50s’ award, 31st overall in 19 minutes 32 seconds – a time beyond most over-50 men; only four in the race were faster.

While the Fife females overshadowed the Fife men in numbers, the women didn’t take all the glory as Cellardyke under-20 athlete Zach Delaney posted a personal best of 15 minutes 57 seconds to place 27th overall and sixth junior. Tony Martin in 83rd celebrated his recent rise up the age groups, winning the over-60s’ prize in a super-fast 18 minutes 04 seconds.
