FIFE AC runners’ bid to complete 100 races in 2012 stalled slightly as the adverse weather forced a number of cancellations to the athletics calendar over the festive period, meaning only some meetings went ahead.

At the Camperdown Park run, Fife AC’s Craig Ross finished third and was the first over 50 to cross the line. Dundee Hawkhill’s Craig Love registered his 10th win over the 5km course timed at 18 minutes 37 seconds, his 99th race of the year.

Brian R. Smith placed 49th (22 minutes 18 seconds) out of 259 runners who contested the Edinburgh Parkrun 5km at Silverknowes/Cramond, bringing Smith to a total of 98 races over the year.

Meanwhile, Fife AC’s Tortoise and Hare Relay Race takes place today (Wednesday), an event for all the family. Paired runners complete two alternating laps of 1.8 miles along trails in Heatherhall Woods. Junior runners under 13 can take part as a team of four. Runners should register at Giffordtown Hall, Charlottetown, near Ladybank, at 11.30am for a noon start. All welcome.
