Fife AC got off to a strong start at the first East District Cross Country League race in Stirling.
The club’s stand-out performance of the day came from Anna Hedley, who won the U13 girls race 39 seconds ahead of her nearest rival.
Anna, who ran the fastest U13 girls split at last week’s East District Cross Country Relays in Livingston and is ranked 1st U13 over 5k in the Uk after an impressive run in Giffordtown recently, was backed up by younger sister Isla Hedley in fifth and Claire Scotland in 47th.
One of the stand-out team performances came from the U17 men, who made up three of the top five places.
George Rees was the first Fife AC runner home in second place, closely followed by Adam Scott in third and Robert Sparks in fourth.
After the first event of three, they are sitting comfortably in first place in the team standings ahead of rivals Central AC.
Another impressive team performance came from Fife AC’s strong senior women’s team. Halina Rees led the team home in second place and was closely followed by Jen Spence in fifth and Ailsa Cruickshanks in 12th.
The performance puts them in first place in the team standings and bodes well for this weekend’s Scottish Cross Country Relay Championships in Cumbernauld, where they hope to build on the numerous top five performances they have secured in recent years.
Logan and Tristan Rees made sure that the Rees siblings all secured top five finishes, placing first and second U20 men respectively when they stepped up the senior men’s distance.
The two brothers and Sam Fernando, who placed 10th U20, lie in third place in the team standings.
Other highlights throughout the day included Ruby Methven and Katie Sandilands placing fourth and sixth respectively in the U11 girls race, and Iain McWhinnie, Gavin McWhinnie and Ben Sandilands placing sixth, seventh and eighth respectively in the U15 boys race.
The next East District Cross Country League takes place in Alloa on Saturday November 19.
