Glens end Oakley’s unbeaten league run: Oakley Utd 3 - 4 Glenrothes

After a disastrous first-half, Glenrothes showed character to complete a marvellous comeback.

The game started off with Oakley United creating most of the chances and on 19 minutes a cross that was uncontested by the Glens defence was easily converted and put into the back of the net. Five minutes later a through ball was easily slotted into the back of the net from what looked like an offside position to make it 2-0.

Things were looking impossible for Glens on 33 minutes after another cross was totally uncontested, which lead to an easy tap in.

Glens started to get back into the game on 38 minutes after John Martin was fouled in the box and the referee gave a penalty.

Sean Simpson took the penalty and put it in the back of the net.

At the start of the second-half, Glens came out a totally different side and on 50 minutes were back in the game after a fantastic run by Jimmy Murray, who won the ball in midfield and ran all the way into the box, rounded the Oakley goalkeeper and hammered it home to make it 3-2.

As the half went on Glens created several chances to equalise, but is was not until the 86th minutes that they did so.

Jamie Leslie picked up the ball and passed to substitute Lyall Shaw whose effort hit the bar, the rebound was cleared off the line and on the third time of asking Shaw smashed the ball into the back of net.

One minute later, Martin sparked wild celebrations on the Glenrothes side-line after he curled a beautiful shot from 18 yards into the back of the net to make it a 4-3 Glenrothes.

After the goal, Oakley had two men sent off, the first player to leave receiving the red card because of foul language and the second after he threw out an elbow.
