Crail Golfing Society’s ladies’ championship was won on the club’s finals day by 11-year-old Anna Mackay.
She is youngest ever winner of the ladies’ championship at Crail and also one of the youngest winners in the UK of a ladies’ club championship.
Anna, who took up the game at the age of four, comes from a strong golfing family, with her elder brother, Ben (14), winning the junior match play championship on the same day and her father, Colin, being a club past champion.
“I had to play my very best golf to get to the final,” said a smiling Anna.
“The games were all really hard and I’m so pleased to have won.”
Murray Herd, a lifelong member of the society, who won the men’s club championship on the same day, commented in his winner’s speech, “2015 finals day will go down in history at Crail Golfing Society – what a day.”
Anna’s success is testament to Crail’s strong junior development programme, which is based on the Clubgolf scheme, together with open access to adult competitions and SGU\SLGA coaching.
