LARGO Cricket Club’s youth system got another massive boost recently as two more of its young star players received international recognition.

Alex Anderson was selected for the Scotland U17 team for a two-day match against Durham on June 28 and 29, followed by two, one-day internationals and a T20 match against the Netherlands.

Fifteen-year-old Alex, remained unbeaten in three starts for the Scotland U15 team last year and is looking forward to the challenge of the older age group and tougher opposition.

Although primarily in the Scotland team as an off spin bowler, he has celebrated his selection by scoring 100 runs and taking five wickets for Largo 2nds over the last two weekends.

Also picked for international duty is fellow 15-year-old, Briony Gillin from Anstruther, who has been selected for the Scotland U17 girls team for three away matches against Durham, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire. Briony warmed up for her ‘tour’ by playing in the U18 Scottish Cup win at Falkland recently as well as playing for the Largo Senior 4th XI.

Also picking up caps, all be it of a different kind, at Largo recently were Andy Robertson and David Scott who were each presented with their club caps having achieved the feat of taking 75 senior wickets for the club. Andy and David join Alex Anderson in the junior group holding the coveted red, blue and yellow baggy cap.
